New Cintiq equals new blog post

So I was finally able to get my hands on the new cintiq.  A cintiq was probably one of the first purchases that I wanted to make when I started working.

However, many things prevented that from happening:

  • I like to buy artbooks
  • gas is a wallet killer
  • food
  • and the fact that cintiqs have been on backorder for like ever.

I decided to save up for about 2 months so I could finally buy a cintiq when  they were in stock again.  Last week, I found an online shop that had one in stock and bought it instantly.  The moment my cintiq was delivered to my house, I had the worst case of artist block.  Nothing came out right and I really didn’t want the first thing that I used my cintiq for was actual work-work (Titmouse has a cintiq for me to use).

So i remembered a villain I came up with during lunch: Goldbrain.

Goldbrain was the result of a conversation that went off in many tangents courtesy of one, Jeremy Polgar (visit his blog cause he’s a super talented animator and character designer).  The conversation was initially about Jeremy using fake science logic to explain the ongoings of the human brain.  And for some reason, I thought it would be cool if James Bond had a villain with a gold brain that would glow when he would think.  Since I like how the design of him came out, expect more Goldbrain related doodles to surface.

Happy New Year!

Titblog: Inner Warrior

So this week’s Titblog theme is to design your inner warrior.  It’s another incarnation of my luchador avatar.  Anyhoo, check what the other Titmice have whipped up for this inner warrior theme.  Cheers.

Titblog, Inc (AKA The Titmouse Sketchblog)

Have You Checked out Titblog Inc?

The funny thing about working in animation is the fact that drawing is the last thing on your mind when you get home from work. To remedy that, the artists at the studio I work at decided to start a group sketchblog called Titblog, Inc: it’s the result of Titmouse + Blog. Anyhoo, someone comes up with a challenge/theme for the week and we have at it any way we want. Here’s my contributions so far

“Big people in small places”

“Combine 2 Titmice”

“Tranny Bicyclist”

Be sure to check out some more art from the talented folk I work with at and visit the Titblog.

Sketching at Porto’s

Question:  What’s the best way to ruin a good sketchbook?

Answer:  By not drawing in it everyday.

I went to Porto’s Bakery in Burbank yesterday to do some sketching with some friends: Mike Moloney, Grif Kimmins, Maha Tabikh & Angelo Di Nallo.  Funny thing about drawing from life: if you don’t practice it enough, you forgot a whole bunch of stuff.  There are quite a few pages in my sketchbook that have fallen victim to that reality.

If you’re looking for a great place to do some people sketching, Porto’s is great because it’s very busy with people.  You get a wide array of people to sketch whenever you go there.  Anyhoo, a lot of the time spent was trying to remember the approach to people sketching.   After a few hours, I was able to muster up some decent pages.  Hopefully, I can get back into the habit of doing more sketching from life.  It challenges your observational skills and it’s sometimes fun too.  Cheers.

Arabian Nights? Gesture Drawing

Last night was my first life drawing class in a long time.  Being on hiatus from work makes it so much easier to attend classes.  However, you start to realize how rusty you are at life drawing when you haven’t done it in a few months.  Last night’s drawing session was a lot of trial and error plus a bit of anguish.  Anyhoo, these drawings were the survivors as I tried to shake out the rust for 3 hours.  Cheers.
