From a costume gesture drawing class this week.  The model came in as a Celtic Warrior and I was fortunate enough to turn out a decent drawing.   A tad too heavy-handed with the drawing, but I like the overall design.   I approached the drawing wanting to use different proportions and shapes from what I normally do.   It’s probably why this drawing was one of my favorites from the night.

There’s other drawing that I’ve done aside from the New Year’s Drawing Challenge.  I attend costumed gesture drawing workshops.  Here are some 5 minute poses that I took to a more complete marker rendered finish.  Cheers me mateys!!

The normal person sleeps in on a Sunday morning.  I’m far from normal, so my Sunday mornings are spent in my gesture drawing class.  I swear I’ll never ever get the hang of a Sunday morning class but I’ll sure as hell try.

In an attempt to get more information down within the quick poses, I’m making an effort to draw in sharpie.  I’ve been told it’s like drawing with a baseball bat because it’s clumsy so it’s a perfect fit since I’m a klutz.  The line comes out bold so there is no room to noodle around the drawing and it also forces you to make decisions in your mark making.  So as a result, it should improve line efficiency.  Whether or not I’ve accomplished any of that, it’s debatable.  However, the only sure answer is that a lot of drawing was done today (there was a whole lot more, but they were far too rough/junky to post).  Cheers.

2-5 minute poses.

So last night’s Drawing Club featured Malo as the Bride of Frankenstein.  It wasn’t the most successful session of drawing but some drawings turned out pretty decent.  Decided to draw with sharpie that night but it got messy as I was constructing and also the fact that I have a messy line in general.

So I copped out and ended up roughing in the gesture lines in ballpoint and just going over it in sharpie.  Yeah, I know: big cheater!  It was a hard draw session because she had a loose fitting dress and Malo does a lot of twisting in her poses.  Definitely got a lot of poses in here to rework in my sketchbook project.

Poses ranged from 5-15min.  Cheers

Here’s some gesture drawings that I did in Mark McDonnell’s class at LAAFA last Sunday.  It’s my second time around taking the class and there’s still so much to learn.

I didn’t realize how much drawing I actually did in that class until I started archiving my drawings  onto my computer.  It’s a sketchbook project of mine to rework all the bad drawings I did in the class.

Hopefully the sketchbook project helps me improve my gesture drawing as well as my overall sense of design.  Anyways, the drawings consist of 3-5 minute poses.  Cheers
