not every lunchpaint garners the results i want.  I still feel like I need to push the design more.  20 min.  suggestions are definitely welcomed on this one

20 minute lunch paint

I’m beginning to think that this experiment is a good idea.  20 minute lunchpaint at my internship

I’ve been doing so much work in photoshop as of late, I thought it was time to change it up a bit and experiment with trying to do some tonal work in pencil. I recently bought a conte carbon pencil to use for life drawing, but I wanted to do a dry run of the medium. After seeing Dave Colman do a tonal demo in his character design class, I thought it would be something worth trying out for myself. I didn’t use the same tools as Dave did, but I kept the essence of the demo in mind. Whether or not I was successful in it, who knows? The only thing for sure was that I had some fun trying it out.

Although I’ve been doing speedpaints during my lunchbreaks at my internship, I grab my sketchbook and draw whoever is in sight while I’m eating my lunch.

I’m not sure how successful these sketches are because I just sketched for the sake of clearing my mind. Sat down at a Starbucks and just drew as I collected my thoughts. More of a therapeutic drawing session.

Throwing a Changeup with Big Sam

It’s funny how as artists, or as people in general, we tend to get ourselves worked up over the stupidest things.  We dwell over it and it just ruins whatever momentum we have.  I like to add “we” because I’d like to think there are others out there that feel the same way and know what I’m talking about.  Otherwise, I’m the only one and I’d sound like such a weenie because everyone else is above that nonsense.

But anyways, I felt like all the creative steam I had going on recently was stolen from me last night.  It felt like a bully taking your lunch money: they probably don’t need your money, but they sure as hell don’t want you to have it and just keep waving it on your face.  Really aggravating.

As a result, I couldn’t draw worth a lick last night and that bothered the crap out of me.  I ended up spending the whole night feeling uninspired and rattled.

Woke up this morning and decided to try something new in order to regain that spark and just get on a tear again.  My boy Sam Sellers, has this project called the Big Sam Draw Exchange where you caricature him and he’ll caricature you in return.  You can see all the talented artists that have done wonders to Sam’s looks at the Art of ya boy Big Sam! The guy is a talented artist as well.  You can just check out how he gets down with his drawing at his personal blog Big Sam Art.

So I’m not a caricaturist by any means, so decided to make an attempt at it to pump some creativity in my veins again.  Maybe I’ll try designing Sam as a cartoon character during the week.  who knows?

So I spent about 45 minutes on this diddy right here and if you can guess the reference, I’ll give you a high five!

until then, cheers

monkey handstand

Not sure what I was thinking when I drew this, but that’s where my 30 min went.  haha.  It’s an undead monkey doing a handstand on some skulls?  I might add a tail later, but it looks cool the way it is. so i dunno.  Because of the limited palette, this is something worth finishing in illustrator.  Anyways, I got bored with reading and felt like doing something creative.  Let me know what you guys think.  cheers.
