weekend sketch

Decided to spend my weekend sketching and trying to design characters from life, albeit that it was homework for David Colman’s character design class at the Concept Design Academy but it was a skill I wanted to build up as a designer. I was at a coffee shop on friday and the zoo on saturday: got a bit of drawing done but not the results that I wanted. To be able to design characters from quick observation is super hard and I found myself trying to capture a likeness more than anything else. It’s challenging, but I think it’ll pay off in the long run. Anyways, enjoy the rest of the weekend. cheers.

Something Different

scifi_city_wip

Something I don’t do in general is background/environment design because it consists of 3 things I am not particularly confident about: perspective, composition, and digital painting.  In order to improve as an artist I need to overcome my weaknesses by enrolling in an environment design class at the Concept Design Academy.  My luck has it that I signed up for the one class that consists of students from Art Center.  So basically I’m trying to swim with the sharks right now.  But anyways, here’s a work in progress of a sci fi street scene that I’m designing for the class.  Any help would be deeply appreciated and highly beneficial to me.

food court

Today, I was at the Glendale Galleria sketching with some friends at the food court. I thought it would be a good idea to use the sketch session to prepare for David Colman’s Character Design Class at the Concept Design Academy. Anyways, I thought it was an okay drawing session. I didn’t get where I wanted with the designs, but I thought my memory sketches were more successful since I has a mental image in my head of who the character was as opposed to looking back at the people sitting down. I felt I was trying to get a likeness with a majority of the drawings as opposed to capturing the character. So here are the results of the session.
