Batfan Studies

I thought it would be a cool idea to post the steps and versions I made to create my Batfan value study.  You can totally see improvements in the design from the first version on the far left to the end result on the right.  You can also see my struggles in controlling the watercolor medium.   Hopefully, I’ll get better over time.  But for now, I’m seeing progress and that’s what matters.

da na nana nana nana Batfan!

I just started another session at The Animation Academy a few days ago and decided to work in watercolor in order to develop my skills as an artist & character designer.  So here’s a value study I did of a batman fanatic.  Considering the steps/iterations involved, I think I’m on the path to being a decent character designer.  Hope you enjoy.

Attempts @ Gouache

So here’s another one of the attempts I made at painting in gouache, I consider it more of an exercise than anything else. Hopefully with more practice, I’ll produce more acceptable work. For now, enjoy.

Fairy Sketch

So this coming weekend is Nathan Fowkes’ Color Concepts workshop at LAAFA. Seeing that I haven’t touched acrylic or oil paints in over 5 years, I thought it would be a good idea to brush up on acrylics since I’m more familiar with the medium. Unfortunately, I completely tanked the whole weekend with wasted paint with terrible results. Luckily, I was smart enough to just buy a bunch of el cheapo paints for practice. Long story short, this was the best I could do during the weekend. I think it took me about an hour to two hours. It is just a color study of a sketch I found in Josh Howard’s Mosh Girls + Monsters sketchbook.
